Had fabricated a model 1911 style pistol with ParaOrdnance frame (Canada), Exercito Brasieiro slide (Brazil), and Clark Custom Gun Works barrel (Tennessee), finally passed functional checks this morning, prompting the road trip.
The first round fed properly, fired, and ejected correctly, with the slide locking back as expected.
Second round failed to feed, catching on the lip of the barrel ramp, cutting a grin on the jacketed ball. The round chambered with some attention, fired, etc correctly.
An attempt to feed with a second round in the magazine worked, but became the first failure to eject of the morning.
The slide is catching prior to full rearward motion. Only 1/4" of extractor is revealed, but the hammer is fully cocked. Upon clearing the spent round and removing the magazine, the recalcitrant slide will return to battery with a sharp knock on the rear. This problem repeated several times.
Several rubs are visible on the starboard bow of the slide, bearing further examination.
A total of 15 rounds were fired without der Frankenpistol exploading so the trial was judged a success.
More gunsmithing to come: FTF (failure to feed round into chamber); FTE, (failure to eject fired round from chamber); Slide failing to move fully rearward after ejection!
More work required, but it shoots.
